One of many alternative powertrains is based on the electrification of the automobile. By far, the most successful example of this is the gas-electric hybrid. The conventional hybrid is quickly becoming Toyota's core powertrain technology. And Toyota strongly believes it will become the core technology for the industry as a whole. Toyota's goal is to annually sell one million hybrids worldwide, with a majority of those vehicles sold in North America. Toyota also unveiled its FT-CH concept car. The “CH” in the vehicle name stands for “compact hybrid” and its underlying concept can best be defined by contrasting it with the Prius mid-size class.
